Proof of Concept: Appeal to a younger, more mobile-centric workforce

Thomson Reuters has a tax and accounting research legacy project that small firms can subscribe to and perform tax law research to answer client questions, educate staff and be up to date on the latest tax law.

The product owner wanted a way to appeal to younger, associate level employees of small firm CPAs/tax & accounting businesses. Through research, they found that younger users were using vanilla web search sites to perform their tax research because the legacy product felt “old” and “outdated”.

We proposed using a progressive web app to serve up editorial content of interest on mobile platforms. Users would complete an onboarding process to select focus areas of interest and then as news stories were pushed out, users would get notifications they could act and either read now, read later or indicate they weren't interested. This quick prototype was meant to show the product owner how something like that might work. I presented to product, editorial and developers as a way to show how they could leverage existing platform technology to create a low friction entry point into the app on mobile platforms.
